The Irish Agreement
ULSTER’S HOPED-FOR SUPPORT. DAWN OF A NEW ERA. (Received 10. 2.5 p.m.) London, Dec. 9. I.ord Birkenhead, in the House of Lords, moving the Irish Agreement Bills, said that in Article 12 of the old treaty there lurked elements of dynamite which were forced on Britain because the treaty would not have been signed without.
Lord Carson said lie would be optimistic but for the fact that he trusted no British Government concerning Ulster, but he hoped those whose cause he championed would throw in their weight in support of. the agreement. I he Bill passed all stages.
I’he Northern Irish Parliament unanimously passed a resolution approving of the Irish agreement. Sir James Craig paid a tribute to the statesmanship displayed by the British and Free State Cabinets. The agreement, he said, would inaugurate a new era in Ireland. Britain had geen generous, statesmanlike and kind to all Ireland during a grave crisis.—(A. and N.Z.)
