HOSPITAL BOARDS.
! DOMINION EXECUTIVE MEETING Wellington, Dec. 9. I’he Dominion executive committee of the Hospital Boards’ Association of New Zealand met to-day. The Undersecretary of Immigration, who attended, dealing with cases that had been brought up by the association of nominated immigrants who had come upon the relief list of hospital boards, explained the full circumstances and the action taken by his department therein. Alembers of the executive expressed their satisfaction with the efforts of the department to relieve boards of the burden of these cases. It was further decided to offer their congratulations to the Government upon the relatively few instances of recent occurrence where failure to make good had eventuated. The Controller-General of Prisons notified that Cabinet had approved payment for the maintenance and treatment of prisoner patients in hospitals at the ordinary rate of £3 3s per week as from April 1 next. For some time past only 30s per week has been paid. The Government’s decision will be particularly appreciated by the boards concerned. Consideration was given io a number of other matters, including hospital board borrowii.g, wife deserters and the enforcement of maintenance orders, which will form subjects of further representations or of report to the forthcoming conference of the association in Dunedin next February. Arrangements for this conference were also put in hand.
