WASHOUT ON OTIRA LINE. Creymouth, Dec. 10. A washout occurred on the railway between A tokens anef Otira. It is five chains in extent already, and is still slipping. The express train passengers will have to leave the train and walk to Otira (half a mile). Only hand luggage is being accepted on the train. WATiVfAKARIRI RISING. RAIN FALLING. Christchurch, Dec. 10. Reports from Bealey this morning state that the Waimakariri is rising and heavy rain is falling in the upper reaches. An overnight tetogram stated: The harbourmaster of Kaiapoi has been advised that the head waters of the Waimakariri river are again rising above normal following north-west winds. It is anticipated that the riftr will be affected in the vicinity of Kai-’, apoi by daylight.
