SOCIALISM AND COMMUNISM
A CHARGE REPUDIATED. Wellington, Dec. 10. Mr. R. McCallum, chairman of Victoria College Council, took the occasion of retiring from the chair to repudiate the charge against the Council of encouraging Socialism and Communism. On the contrary, he wished to express his high appreciation of the management. They welcomed freedom of speech and debate among tho students, but anything tending to belittle their high duty as citizens they objected to and reHunter remarked that similar things were said about almost e.verv university, and tho exceptions were dead universities.
