Not an Explosion
BROKEN TURBINE SHAFT WRECKS VICTORIA FALLS HY'DRO. (Received 10, 2.0 p.m.) Capetown, Dec. 9. It has been ascertained that the power station disaster was due to the breakiucr of the shaft of a largo turbine driven generator. The frame of the machine burst and the broken parts scattered in all directions. Some were found in the town of A r ereeniging more than a quarter of a mile away. ’Hie astonishing feature is that mo one was injured. Tho mine tonnage affected by the stoppage is over twenty thousand daily, representing a. loss of £30.000 daily. The resumption of work is expected at tho end of tho week.
