In tho Arbitration Court (Mr Mortensen, for the employees, applied for an amendment to be made to the shop assistants’ avurd, fixing tho closing hours i'ox grocers' shops in Taumarunul. It was stated that this would mean a curtailment of the ward Jhoura. to which there was ouly one objector, and h.- was not U party to th© award. Au order was made that all grocers ’ shops in Tauniarunui close ut 5.15 p.in. on four days of the week, 12 noon on Wednesdays and 9 p.in. on Saturdays. Auckland shopkeepers, excluding grocers, asked for an extension of the award to ,9 p.m. on Friday, and curtailment from 1 p.m. to 12.30 p.m. on Saturday till tho uext sitting ©di th** Court at Auckland. Mr Mortensen saiu that the Dominion executive was sympathetic, but it was necessary to get the consent of all the federated bodies.
