TAILOR-MADE AND “SLOPS.”
PROPOSED REGULATIONS. Wellington, Sept. 9. A conference or representatives of different branches ot the tailoring trades m reference to the question or tailor-made and factory-made clothes is being held to-day. The meeting was convened by the Labour Department, and Mr. Rowley., secretary or the department, is presiding. he submitted proposed regulations for discussion, and the following suggested amendment was approved “Any person who seils as tailor-made a garment that is not tailor-maue commits an oilence, and any person who sells, or agrees to sell, or otters by advertisement or otherwise to sell as a tailor-ma'ue garment any part of which is made by a person not vvhoLy engaged in the making of tailor-made garments, commits an offence. ’ The proposal that the following new provision be made: ’‘A garment shall not be described as hand-made or as tailored unless it is entirely made by hand,” was, on the master tailors’ request. held over to give them an opportunity of further considering the question this afternoon. Another clause giving the meaning of tailor-made garments w-as also deterred to enable the master tailors to confer.
