ERECTION OF WORKERS HOMES.
AN ATTRACTIVE OFFER. TO HASTINGS BOROUGH COUNCIL. An offer in connection with the proposed erection of workmen’s homes is to be submitted to the Hastings Borough Council at Thursday night’s meeting. Forty out of forty three sections in Kaiamu road, each 1-6 of an acre in area, with 80 feet frontages to Karamau road and streets off that raod, and depths of 100 feet, are being offered at £lOO a section. The seller is willing to accept debentures, due in four years, during which time he Is prepared to pay the rates and taxes on th& property, besides handing the council £?00 towards the cost of footpaths, etc., and In addition, he will present the council with the odd three sections towards general expenses. A local builder will undertake to erect the workmen’s homes, up-to-date in every respect, at £lOO a room, in earth blocks, so that a man can have c. 5-roomed home on a sixth of an acre for £6OO, free of rates and taxes for, say, four years. It seems an alluring offer, when one considers the price of sections and the cost of building. The minimum area allowed by the Borough Council on which to build dwellings >5 an eighth of an acre, so that the sections in question are well in accord with requirements..
