CRICKET.

HAWKE’S BAY CRICKET ASSN. The Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association met in Napier on Saturday evening. Mr. J. Hindmarsh presided. It was pointed out that the association, while still following up the challenge for the Hawke Cup, thought that this year the possibilities of sending a team to compete were very remote. Matches have been set down in order of their challenges being received. Several hitches have occurred the last being in the Canterbury versus Nelson match. Marlborough, South Taranaki, and Wanganui are in ahead of Hawke’s Bay. There is still a chance of Hawke’s Bay getting in a match as Wanganui may not be able to play, and South Taranaki does not desire to play until Easter. A letter was received from the Wellington Association with regard to inclusion of minor association players in the Wellington representatives to play for the Plunket Shield. It was suggested that minor associations should play Wellington, thus enabling a selection. In the event of this not being practicable minor associations were asked to forward suggestions. The association decided that in this event the best way to bring players under the notice of the selectors was for minor association selectors to forward the most likely names and that three selector# representing every association make the selection of the teams.

A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Hindmarsh and Kennedy and their lady helpers in connection with the recent stalls day when £2O was raised. THE NORTH ISLAND TEA JI. Campbell, who represented North Island. Mr N. R. Jacobsen, secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association. received a telegram this morning stating that Mr. Colin Campbell had been selected to replace Rowntree in the North Island team to play at Christchruch. Campbell leaves for the South to-morrow morning.
