THEFT OF BEER.
AFFAIR AT CARTERTON. SEVERAL NATIVES ARRESTED. Carterton, Oct. 18. In connection with the arrest of two young natives. Wiremu Namana, Wireinu Nacra, on a charge of breaking and entering the storeroom of the Gladstone Hotel, and removing a quantity of beer, four further arrests have been made. It appears thta a fortnight previous to the act by tho arrested natives a similar offence was committed. Constables Millar and Colburne on Sunday arrested at Gladstone, Rangi Namana, Rewiti Hemi and Pera Panapa. A fourth native is implicated and on a visit ‘to Papawai Constable Gregor, of Grey town, appro-, hended him. ' Two young natives appeared before the court this morning, and were further remanded until next Tuesday. The same bails of £5O and £5O were accepted. Tho last four arrested also appeared, and were remanded to the same date. Bail was applied for and allowed, each in £25 and a surety of £25.
