RIFLE SHOOTING.

MARAEKAKAHO CLUB. The Maraekakaho Rille Club opened the shooting season at their range on Saturday. Although the weather was unpromising, a large number attended the shoot, which was carried out successfully in spite of occasional showers. There were many visitors present, among them being Mr. and Mrs. R. D. 1). McLean. Capt. A.' D. D. McLean, Col. and Mrs. Collins, and others. Mr. R. D. D. McLean fired the-first shot, and was followed by others, who contested keenly for the trophies awarded by Capt. McLean, tho president of the club. Tho following are some of the scores:— Open Shdot—2oo Yards.

Afternoon tea was provided by Capt. McLean. 'Die first prize lor the Open Shoot, a pair of binoculars, was awarded to Mr. C. Tait, who missed the possible by only one point. For the Ladies’ Shoot the first prize, a silver case, was won by Mrs. Cohiiis. and the second, a jewel casket, by Miss King. In making tho presentations, Mr. R. I). D. McLean said that it gave him special pleasure to give the first prize for the Ladies’ Shoot to Mrs. Collins, the wife of Col. Collins, who distinguished himself as it soldier, not only in the Boer War. but also in the Great War, through which he had recently passed. It was unfortunate that the weather had not been more favourable, but he was glad to sed so many present, and wished to congratulate the club upon having such a successful meeting lor the opening of the season. Mr. McLean said he hoped that tho season will prove as successful as the first day’s shooting, OKAWA v. NAPIER. On tho Tutaekuri rille range on Saturday afternoon was fired the first inter-club match of the season, being between A. and B. teams from the Okawa and Napier clubs. On account of getting a late start it was decided to lire 10 shots at 300 and 500 yards as it was thought that time would not permit of three ranges being fired. With the exception of a* light shower just before three o’clock the weather was all that could bo desired and the visibility good, the consequence being some high scoring. This was particularly noticeable at 500 yards, where Riflemen Storkey and Stacpoole missed the possible by one- point. Throughout the shoot the four teams kept very close and until tho last man went down it was impossible to tell how tho different teams would be placed. The winners turned up in Okawa A., 10 points ahead of Napier A., with Napier 8., 3 points behind, he individual scores are as follow:—
