N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIPS FIRST TWO ROUNDS. DOUGLAS PLAYS GREAT GAME, Christchurch, Oct. 17. The New Zealand golf championship tournament was opened on the Shirley links in drizzling rain, but the weather cleared later. The course was sodden, as rain has fallen practically every day this month. The first two rounds of the open championship were played. A feature of the day’s play was the performance of the Miramar professional, E. S. Douglas, who did the first round in 70, and the second in 7G, thus gaining a lead of 10 on his nearest opponents. Bogey for tho course is 80, and his 70 is the best official score made since the new lay-out of the course. He showed excellent knowledge of the ground, and made very few mistakes. His driving, approaching and putting were very fine. He did ten holes in one less than bogey, while not in one instance did he exceed bogey. He took

TAKAPAU CLUB. The A’Deano Cup was played for on Saturday under unfavourable conditions. The winner was A. J, Cameron with a net score of 73. A gold medal for the best gross score was won by S. *Ropata. Tho following cards were handed in.
