HOCKEY.
THE SHIELD MATCH. The following have'been chosen by the selectors (Mr. C. L. Thomas, Napier, and J. Eear, Hastings) to keep in training in view of the match for the New Zealand Association’s shield against either Auckland or Nelson on or about July 31: —Goal, J. Eear (Hastings); backs, L. Davis and G. Maddison (Hastings) and W. Cockerill (Napier); halves. A. Fear; H. Turner and T. Collinge (Hastings), F. Bullick and S. Morgan (Dannevirke); forwards, H. Le Bas, C. Strack, N. Jacobsen, A. Culliford and B. Downes (Napier), S. Land (Hasting's) and H. Caret on (Dannevirke). The Hanke's Bay representatives and two emergencies will be chosen from the above named players within a few days, and those unable to make the trip should notify the selectors immediately.
