THE GAME IN ENGLAND. London, July 9. Heavy rainfall throughout the country nterfered with the week’s cricket. Some lounty matches were abandoned. Imiroved weather to-day enabled the Etonlarrow match to commence at Lords. The vicket was greatly in the bowlers’ favour. Tarrow made 85 in the first innings and iton 103. Harrow in the second innings lost 9 for 148.
Play was impossible in Mead’s benefit natch on Wednesday and Thursday owing o the rain and it was finally abandoned o-day after a few hours, during which l*hbs gave a splendid exhibition, notchng his eighth century of the season, scoring 169 in 220 minutes. Surrey declared at five for 265 and lampshire had 23 on for no wickets when he downpour stopped play. Fry scored 6, his first appearance since 1914.
