H.B. SHIPPING.

FURTHER RELIEF. Following telegrams have passed between Mr. H. Al. Campbell, acting on behalf of Air. G. Ebbett, president H.B. Branch N.Z. Farmers' Union, and Hon. H. W. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, and are published at Air. Ebbett’s request. Air. Campbell to the Aliuister: —“Ain wiring you at tho request of the President N.Z.F.U., Air. G. Ebbett, and numerous settlers, to know whether the boat promised to us (Shropshire), on June 14 and 27, is still in Brisbane and whether you will arrange for W'aimana, or some other boat, to load here immediately. The position of farmers is getting hopeless; stock will not be railed away owing to new train arrangements, thus closing outside works to local farmers. Further, nearly half the district is still under snow. Freezing works here are practically all full. We require your prompt and liberal action to partially save very serious position.’’ Minister to Air. Campbell, from Hokitika:—“Have noted conditions. Am referring your request to Overseas Committee, in meantime, and shall wire you further after my return to Wellington on Wednesday.” Alinister to Air. Campbell (second wire): —“N.Z. Overseas Shipowners’ Committee have, for some time, been endeavouring to find some means of affording additional relief in your district and I am now pleased to inform you that arrangements have been completed for the Suffolk to call at Napier, about the Sth inst., and load 20,500 carcases, equalling 26,000 carcases, allowing for telescopic mutton and lamb. This quantity is additional to that provided for in Shropshire and Orari, which vessels have suffered delay, owing to necessity of relieving coal situation by bringing supplies from Australia.”
