WAIPAWA.
On Saturday evening t.ic recently appointed representatives of returned soldiers on the local repatriation committee. .Mr A. E. Jul] and Dr. Deck, met a large number of the returned men in the Council Chambers when the provision, of the Repatriation Act was explained and to have a general conv<-)-s.ation. The meeting resolved to form a local branch of the Returned Soldiers Association and a committee was formed consisting of Messrs Mills, Ferguson and Dryden with, Messrs Pedler arid H. Fletcher as joint secretaries. It is anticipated that about 100 men will link up with the local branch. Another w-eleome home to return ed boys was held on Monday after noon. The public turned out in large numbers to meet the mailtrain and the two bands were also in attendance. McDonald. Peters. Cook and Mawson w:erc booked to arrive but onlv the latter put in an appearance. Mr. A. E. .lull on behalf of the citizens of the town and district, extended a hearty welcome to Bomlir. Mawson. who left with the "itb. Reinforcements and has leturned looking well.
.Many residents of the town journeyed to Onga Ong;’ on Monday evening to attend a concert to commemorate Erin’s pat roti saint fSt. Patrick.
There ia strong feeling in town in favour of forming a branch for M atpawa and district of the Social Democratic League and a meeting tor the purpose is to eventuate shortly . The Peace Celebration Committee are meeting on Saturday- evening next to advance the arrangements of celeb rations a further st age.
