CHAMPION FOURS TOURNAMENT. Beautiful weather prevailed for the opening of thh East Coast Centre’s Champion Fours tournament on the Hastings green to-day. Considerable interest among bowlers is taken in this annual fixture, the clubs represented ehosing their foremost players to do battle "" for their respective clubs. The contest lacks a certain amount of interest this year owing to the non-participnt:on of the Poverty Bay clubs, their ab being due on account of steamer arrangements not being suitable. However, the tournament is certain to prove interesting, the teams engaged being out to do their best for their respective clubs. Mr Ackers, the caretaker, is to be congratulated on ihe perfectcondition of the green, the players being loud in their praise of the trimness of the turf. A large number of onlookers were present during the day. The visitors are being hospitably catered for by the ladies of the Croquet Club, morning and afternoon tea being provided.
