RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK.
COMMISSION WILL VISIT NAPIER. Auckland, Feb. 7. The Royal Commission on the rolling stock of railways concluded its local sitting to-day. Evidence collected from officials and employees in varioifs departments generally ■went to show that the rolling stock had greatly improved during the last three years. A critical examination centred on the bearing and drawbar springs of vehicles, the evidence adduced being to the effect that the two-piece springs used on waggons were superior to whole springs. Jt was pointed out that there rarely was a shortage of material _ and painting wjjrk was well maintained. The Commission inspected the repair workshops at Newmarket yesterday and local yards to-day. It will proceed to Frankton and Hamilton to-morrow for inspections and Wanganui next «. ay for a sitting of three days. Situ ugs will subsequently be held at <apier and Wellington and brief su-ws, if possible, are to be made at Pa- n<wston North and Masterton.
