COAL SUPPLIES. - CONSUMPTION RESTRICTED. Auckland, Feb. 6. Mr. Mvers. Minister in Charge ot Coal Supplies, said that the production was not equal to requirements and it had become necessary to restrict usage and for directing it to urgent channels—supplying trans- • ports and produce steamers overseas, and to supplying railway and shipping. The needs of domestic use was restricted to 5 tons at any one time, and 20 tons in a period of 28 days, the dealing with the output joeing governed directly by the Minister himself.
WOMEN NOT WANTED IN BLOCKADE AREA.
ISSUE OF PASSPORTS RESTRICTED.
Wellington, Feb. 6. The Hon. G. W. Russell, Minister of Internal Affairs, made the following statement to-day : — The attention of the Government has been drawn to the large number of women who are leaving New Zealand at present for the Mother Country, and it has been decided that restrictions be imposed on these in the future. It has therefore been decided that in future passports shall not be issued to women except in-cases of exceptional necessity. The policy of restricting the departure of men will be still further tightened also.
