PALMERSTON CASES

Palmerstpu, N., leb. 5. At the Magistrate’s Court George Phillips was charged under the anti-shouting regulations with purchasing liquor on licensed premises the Commercial Hotel, and inviting Harold Jarvis to consume that liquor. Charles Gardner, the barman, was charged with selling intoxicating liquor to Phillips, knowing it was for consumption by Jarvis. Thomas Childs, the. licensee, was charged with permitting shouting on his premises. All the defendants pleaded not guilty. Phillips, Jarvis and the barman, were each fined £5 and costs, The case against Childs was dismissed, as he was away from Palmerston when the offence was committed.

William Hodgson was charged with shouting for Martha Kelly at the Imperial Hotel, and Bertie Basil Raynes, the licensee, was charged with permitting shouting to take place. The defendants pleaded not guilty. The licensee was fined £2O, and Hodgson and Kelly £5 each.
