CANADA. FIRES ON STEAMERS. [REUTER’S TELEGRAMB.II Vancouver, Nov. 16. The Union Steamship Co.’s Waikawa (5642 tons) is on fire in the dock here to-night. The fire was similar to the Waimarino’s outbreak. After three hours’ fight the Waikawa’s fire was got under control. A hundred tons of copra was ruined with a loss of £2OOO. The mystery is added to by the fact that the copra was lifted from the after hold to a position ’tween decks. The other cargo was uninjured. The loss of the copra cargo on the Waimarino is estimated at £4OOO. An investigation into the remarkable co-incidence is proceeding.
