LABOUR DAY.

PICNIC AND SPORTS AT FARNDON. A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. Labour Day at Napier, was hailed with truly perfect weather, which gladdened the hearts of the many hundreds of picnickers, who have impatiently waited for the great Labour Day attractions at Farndon Park. Theo rganisers proudly say that this is their most successful effort. At an early hour people thronged to the railway station en route to the scene of attractions. At nine o’clock this morning, the bands paraded at the undermentioned posts and played gladdening airs on the march to the train:— Napier City, Post Office; Regimental, Arcade; Highland Pipe, Victoria Hotel; Drum and Fife, Bailway Station. The grounds presented a very gay appearance, thronged as it was with many hundreds of happy-heearted people. Everything possible was done to provide pleasure for both young and old—numerous sideshows —Ocean Wave. Circus, Hoopla, and other attractions. In fact the scene presented was similar to that of the recent show. The children especially, enjoyed the many funny attractions provided. The five bands in turn provided a choice programme of music, which greatly inspirited the proceedings.. Following is the result of the various racing events: — Boys’ Race (under 14 years), 75 yards.—N. Rolls 1, C. Keating 2.

Giris’ Race (under 14), 75 yards.— N. Fischer 1, E. Ho with 2. Youths’ Race (under 18), 100 yards. —T. Chadwick 1, A. H. Harre 2.

Girls’ Race (under 18), 75 yards.— M. Earnev- I, A. Wells 2. H.B. Schoolboys’ Championship, 100 yards.—Senior : M. Campbell 1, P. E. Annam 2, W. Wyatt 3. Juniors: £. Arroll 1, F. Barry 2, A. Austin 3. Single Ladies (over 18), 75 yards.— K. McQuilken 1, M. Donaldson 2. Married Ladies, 75 yards.—Mrs. Helyer 1, Mrs. Mcßride 2.
