PLUNKET SOCIETY’S WORK.
SUGGESTED NATIONALISATION. Dunedin, Oct. 23. The Minister of Health has submitted the Plunket. Society a scheme for the nationalisation of the Society’s work. He proposes to form an organisation for each ot the provincial districts to be called provincial unions with the power, of recommendation to the Dominion Executive, these to meet yearly and upon them to be placed the. responsibility of extending the Society s work within the provinces. From the unions will be elected a Dominion council to meet anually, and to be located at Dunedin. Its constitution to be two delegates from each of the four large centres, with one delegate each from Southland, Westland. Nelson, Marlborough, Hawke’s Bay and Taranaki. The Dominion executive to be given power to subdivide the provincial districts. Provision is made for encouragement of the establishment in three other centres of institutions similar to the Dunedin Kantane Home. , . The Minister, speaking in connection with the scheme, for extending accommodation for consumptive soldiers in the different provinces says he proposes to acquire land for light employment of convalescents on the lines already adopted. at the. Waikato sanatorium, the idea, being to fit them for rural occupations after discharge.
