THE HOLIDAY.
Perfect summer-like weather prevailed for the holiday to-day,, and holiday seekers were early astir. The chief attractions were the] races at Waipawa and the sports, at Farndon. A very considerable number of people left Hastings for Farndon, where a most enjoyable day was ispent. The Hastings Town Band were present and in conjunction with the Napier . bands, enlivened the day’s proceedings. The Y.M.C.A. Boy Scouts, m charge of Mr. F. E. Barley, journeyed to Clive Grange,, where picnicking and surf bathing were indulged in. This favourite sea-side resort was frequented by a large number of people during the day, the younger generation predominatttig. . The Hastings Lawn Tennis and Croquet lawns were well patronised. . , Bowlers were in full force at the formal opening of the St. Leonard s green. The various clubs were well represented. The green was in perfect condition, whilst the surroundings, after a careful winter preparation, looked beautiful. The .presence of a large number of ladies added picturequeness to the scene. The Okawa Rifle Club opened their season with a “shoot’’ .at Roy’s Hill, when there was a fairly good muster of riflemen.
