MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

NAPIER. TUESDAY~AUGUST 11. (Before Mr. S. E. McCarthy, S.M.) CIVIL CASES. Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the following undefended cases W. Reading v. F. C. Cook, £l4 14/-, costs 40 6 ; Percy Thornton v. Chas Wells, £l5 13/6. costs 30/6; Geo. Frater v. Jas, Forne, £3 9/2, costs 10-. Orders were made in the following judgment summonses:—C. Sherwood v. H. McGregor. £5 3/1, to be paid forthwith in default 14 days’ imprisonment. McGruer and Co. claimed £53 5/3 from Mrs. Margaret McNutt, being the price of goods supplied to the defendant. Mr. Lush appeared for plaintiffs and Mr. Dolan for defendant, who contended that the accounts should be paid by her husband. P. W. Peters, manager of McGruer and Co., stated that Mrs. McNutt was a customer at McGruer’s. She had bought goods on credit. Her husband had stated that he would not pay his wife’s bill. After hearing Mrs. McNutt’s evidence, his Worship said that as the defendant’s husband bad stopped his wife’s credit he thought the wife was responsible, so he would give judgment for plaintiffs for the amount claimed together with costs.
