The weather was a trifle dull but otherwise not unpleasant to-day for the opening of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand. National meeting. The course was in capital order, and there was a good attendance, the crowd to be nearly up to the standard of past years. The representation of Parliament was not so large as usual, but there were one or two members of both Houses present. The totahsator investments for the day amounted to £38,517 10/-, compared with £43.098 10/- last year.
