The Bi’igantinc Montezuma, from Sydney, via Auckland, came to an anchor in the roadstead on Suxxday morning last, but owing to a heavy sea breaking across tho channel no communication could be made with her. During the night she parted her cable owing to great strain caused by the heavy swell. The anchor xmfortunately was not buoyed, and was lost. The vessel was brought up again with a second anchor. Captain Me. Intyro reports having experienced boisterous weather—After leaving Sydney on the 2Gth February, a succession of S.E. gales was encountered, duxing which the jibboom, head rails and chain bolt of the main rigging were caiTied away. At one time the ship was found to be 300 miles to the north of New Zealand, and Lord Howe’s Island was sighted on the 3rd of March, Oxx the 17th the Brigantine made Auckland, and after refitting and discharging part of her cargo loft for Napier on the 28th. The Montezuma has made a modei’ate passage of eight days from Auckland to Napiei’, sighted two schooners during the trip, and for the most part had light easterly winds. We learn that in Sydney about seventy tons of goods were waiting an opportunity of being shipped to Napier. We trust this is correct, and that our commerce with the Australasian capital will continue rapidly to increase. The Surprise left Port Nicholson on tho 28th of March, and had southei'ly winds for a day succeeded by calm and light winds, but with a very heavy sea running during the whole of the passage. She was six days within sight of Castle Point, and had to let go the ketch several times to avoid drifting on the rocks to the southward of Castle Point. A schooner was sighted on the Ist inst., standing south, supposed to be tho Sea Serpent. Tho Sea Serpent came in (the tidefavoring) without a Pilot, a rough sea, and strong wind preventing the boat from getting out. The smart Schooner Pole Star has made an excellent run from Auckland in four days. She left on Friday last at 6 p.m., the wind altliough moderate being unfavourable, and as the Schooner had sheep on board Captain Eaton wisely took smooth water. Left again on Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock, rounded the East Cape on Monday at 4 p.m., and passed Portland Island yesterday at 9 a.m. The vessel was now laid to until 3 in the afternoon, a North Easter blowing the while. The Planet, from Auckland to Poverty Bay, was at the Mercuries when the Pole Star left. By this arrival we have an addition of 30 Leicester ewes, the property of Mr. Tiffen. H.M.S.S. Miranda, 15 guns, Captain Robert Jenkins, aivrived from Sydney on Monday at 5T5 p.m., after a rapid passage of little more than eight days. Sailed on tho 15th at 11 p.m.; sighted tho Tlxrco Kings at 11 a.m. on the 23rd, and had to contend with light and baffiing winds throughout. Tho Ward Room Officers of the Miranda entertained Mr. Rye, Lieutenaxxt R.N., at a farewell dinner. On leaving the ship, he was loudly cheered by tho ships’ companies of Miranda and Pelorus. This Officer had served in the Miranda since leaving England and was greatly respected by die fleet.— New Zealander March 26. 1 Yesterday about 8 a.m., H.M.S.S. Harrier, 17 guns, Commander Sir M. McGregor, Bt., arrived from Sydney whence she sailed at 10 - 30 a.m. of the 13th. She experienced light and baffling winds throughout the passage, and was two days under steam. She brought a Sydney mail. Tlxe mail for January, was despatched from Sydney, via, the South, on the 15th. The December mail was on board the Bombay which sailed from Galle on the 21st January. Tlxere is no account of the fate of that ship.— lbid.
