WAIPAWA.
At the last general meeting of the Waipawa County Council, as at present constituted, the chairman (Cr. O. Kricksen) made a statement pregnant with meaning. He referred to the remarkable shrinkage of the overdraft, which had been reduced during the financial year ended the 30bh September, 1902, by .£3659 from jGSOSO. The present position of the oounoil’s finances ia attributed to the co-operative system of economy exercised by the councillors. It is an attainment on which the ratepayers throughout the county may offer congratulations, The measures of the period of office have been progressive and enterprising. An outstanding instance was the passing of the heavy traffic by-laws, with their mueh-dieoussed section relating to the tax on wool and timber waggons and firewood drays. In the courtesies extended were inolnded welldeserved eulogies of the county clerk and overseer. The date for nominations for the new council is to be some time during the fourth week of October.
The lambing on the large stations throughout the district averages 80 per cent.— Own Correspondent.
