[HOU OUB OWN COBBESPONDBNT.] June 13. 1900. The Waipawa school committee met last night. Present— Mesars Eames, Nicholson, Wiseman, Bibby, Downes, and Pellow. Mr Nioholson presided in the absence of the chairman. — The Board notified that the holidays would commence on the 22nd June, and terminate on the 30th. Also re alterations to desks and forms, that the inspector had been requested to report ; also that the arohitect had been instructed to call for tenders for repairs, fencing, shelter shed, and the necessary drainage. — The Board forwarded the Hawke'a Bay Caledonian Society's medal for V. Downes, and asked that it be so carried out that it would act as a stimulus to others in their competitions for future medals. Mr Nioholson thought all the committee should have been notified, so that all could attend. The first he beard of it

was from the papers. —Mr Ward's telegram re holiday for Pretoria was read. — The head-master's report report showed the attendance for the past four weeks was 156-3, 128, 149, 1533, roll number 178, being a decrease on the corresponding month of 18. Recommended that the Board be asked to postpone holidays till after the examination, which would be in August. The infant department was in need of the Royal Crown Primer Reader, part 1, and he believed they could be got from the Board, Certain stationery was asked for. Three months' supply of the latter was authorised. The sanotion of the Board was asked that the holidays be postponed. — vlr Mogridge's tender for stationery at same rates as last year was accepted. Mr Nicholson said he thought it would be well to consider the propriety of keeping stocks of school books, &c, and sell them to the children, — Accounts totalling £Z 12s Id were passed for payment.— The secretary had received £2 from Mr W. Young as a donation for prizes as last year, and a vote of thanks

was passed. — The seoretary said that owing to the delay of the party whc undertook to supply wood the order had been cancelled and given to another person. Action confirmed. —On the motion, of Mr Nioholson, the Board is to be asked to asphalt the playground; also for a ohart, as requested by the master.— Mr Wiseman, for the visiting oommittee, reported the school in good order, only some minor matters needed attention; they had seen the desks, and he moved that the committee alter them. Being reminded that they were the Board's property he moved that the attention of the Board be again called to the desks, which was carried.— Messrs Downes and Nioholson were appointed visiting oommittee for the month^ The Waipawa Hospital Board met this afternoon.
