NAPIER HOSPITAL BOARD.

Monday, June 10, Present— Meters Uohen (chairman), Moeller, H. Williams, Ormond, M.L.C., Faulknor, Rymer, and M'Lean. VISITING COMMITTEE. The visiting committee (Messrs Ormond and Moeller) reported that they wished to record their opinion (this being their lastreport) that the management of the hospital was very creditable, and reflected very great credit on the house surgeon and the matron. Tbe number of patients in the hospital was abant 33, and three diphtheria nod five typhoid patients were under treatment at the time of drawing up the report, all approaching convalescence. Tho uurses home was now ready, and only awaited furnishing. When this had been furnished the private wards would be released, ami the nurses would be rendered very much more comfortable than heretofore. The nurses had asked that they might have their meals in the home, and as it bad been found that this could be done without extra expense Beyond the expenditure on a few utensils, tho committee recommended that) the request be grained. Mies Edwards had arrived from Auckland and bad taken np her duties. Finally they asked the Board to increase tbe salary of the matron from £60 to £80, as her proficiency had been shown by the increased efficiency of the hospital since she took charge, and the increased sum was likely to Becare her services permanently.—The report was adopted. FURNITURE. The Chairman said the visiting committee and two other members of the committee had gone thoroughly into tbe matter of furniture for the new home, and had received estimates from a number of tradesmen. They fonnd that £127 I7s would he required for furniture exoluslve of beds and bedding, which would cost an extra £61, makiDg a total of £191 I7s, The building had cost about £588, and the whole when complete would represent the expenditure of close upon £800. These estimates (which were set out in full particular) were adopted. MISCELLANEOUS. Ibe Chairman reported that the sum of £3 6s 6d had been received from the Hastings Band aa the net collection from a concert. — Received with thanks. The Chairman stated that the secretary bad been iustructed to cable to Australia for a supply of anti-toxin, to be available a!si to local medical men requiring it. Rev. O. Dean wrote stating that the Rev. F. Isitd, of Christchurch, would be pleased to deliver a lecture on the American War In aid of the fuods of the hospital early in July. — Resolved that the offer be accepted ; also that of Mr Cohen to give tbe free nae of the Gaiety Theatre for tho night selected, - Messrs H. Williams and Rymer were appointed a visiting committee for tho next term. The secretary reported that the prison authorities had refused to pay hospital fees (£l2 18") on behalf of two prisoners who bad been treated at the hospital for typhoid fever. — Id was resolved that the Minister for Justice be written to on the subject. Ordinary sccounts amounting to £260 12s less patients' fees were passed for payment. Tbe final payment of £218 13s 10d in connection with the nurses' home was also passe. l. The meeting then adjourned.
