Monday, Juxje 10. Pressnt— Meßara Cohen (chairman), J N. Williams. J. D. Ormond, M.L.C., Faulknor, Kymer, M'Lean, and H. Williams. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with :—■ From the Patea and Wanganni Charitable Aid Boards nrging upon the Board to help forward an amendment of section 74 of the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Act, 1885, dealing with destitute persons coming from beyond contributing districts, which measure if passed will give trustees or boards power to retnrn sneb. persons to their own districts.— Mr Ormond pointed oat that boards had these matters in their own hands. They could refuse to expend money on persons cominp from other districts. | From Mrs Holt, stating that she would accept a year's salary of £10 instead of the gratuity suggested, in compliance with the -opinion of the solicitor, who stated that no gratuity oould be granted, —Adopted, APPLICATIONS. A man named Woods applied for relief, and said he was a painber ont of work, and destitute .thongh he had resided in tho town 22 years.— The secretary's report was very unfavorable, and it was decided to ask the police to report. In tbe case ot Mrs M'Gregor (and five children), whose husband had gone away to look /or work, and who had recently beep laid up with typhoid fever, it was decided to prant two months,' xatione. Mrs Evans, of Hastings, and family were allowed a month's rations on the suggestion of Sergeant Mitchell, ALMONER'S RKPOOT. Mr Johnson, chief almoner, Waipawa, reported tbat he bßd iibimself relieved fourteen cases between Ist and 15th May, and that there had been a material falling off in applicants for assistance. Two of the men had returned their orders, having obtained temporary work. Constable Trainor had reported receiving two or three applications a day at VVoodville At Ormondvillo 32 had received rations, three of whom had since got employment.
