NAPIER ROWING CLUB.

(By "Kowlock.") For tho Gollan Sculls ten entries were received, nine of whom went to the post. The first lound of heats was rowed on the 23rd April, and the second round on Saturday last. The results were as follows :— FIRST ROUND. The first heat was between G. Chapman find .1, Hutchina. ChapmaD took tho lead at the start, and kept his advantage till half a mile from home, when he had tho misfortune to capsize, leaving Hutchins to paddle in a winner. Tlio second heat was 8. B. Jtt K o y. W. A. Kicly. Both scullers got away well, but did not appear to exert themselves till about 600 yards from home, when the pace improved, but Jago lasted longer, and woo easily by two lengths, In tho third heat J. G. Hughes met H. J. Clayton. This race was rowed almost in tbc dark, and was won by Hughes, who led the whole way. SECOND HOUND. Tho first beat was between G. M'Vay and F. Williams, and resulted in a surprise to all the knowing ones. M'Vay took the lead at tho start, and rook nutters easily, rowing well within himself, but steering rather badly. Much to his surprisa he found at tho finish that Williams, by keeping a straight course, bnd got home a length to the pood. Tho •-•ccond h«it was b,otweeu Kennedy and J«ijo. Kennedy got away first and led to

the gut by a length and a half, where he crossed into Jago's water. About 50 yards from home both boats were level, when Jago collapsed, leaving his opponent to row in an easy winner. GENERAL. The conolnding heats will be rowed during the week (weather permitting). The inter-club match Union v. Napier will be rowed on Friday afternoon next. The Napier Mowing Club will be represented by F. L. Hutchinson (stroke), G. D. Chapman (3), J. Wilson (2), and G. D. M'Vay (how). The* race is to be rowed in the Napier Kowiug Club's lixedseat boats Mermaid and Undine, and the distance is 1£ mile. It is with pleasure that I hear that the Wairoa and Mohaka sports each intend forming clubs. A finer river for rowing than tho Wairoa could not bo found anywhere, and rowing should make gigantic strides there. I would remind members of the Napier Bowing Club of the special general meeting which is to he held on Saturday next nt ?.3O p.m., and as the business to be transacted is very important I trust members will roll up in force and up to time. A committee meeting will be held at 7 o'clock on the same evening.
