Tuesday, Jtjnb 23. The House met at 2.30 p.m. i QUESTIONS. Replying to questions, itwaß stated — 1. That the Government did not intend to bring in a bill this session to amend the Registration of Electors Act. 2. That tho Government did not intend to legislate this session [on the question of securing the rights of the Queen over a portion of the Kaiti block, Poverty Bay. 3. That it was not intended to introduce any measure this session relating to the distribution of seats. . 4. That the Government could not this session promise to bring in a bill providing for the payment of jurors in civil cases. 5. That the Government intended to ask the House this session to renew the legislation on the rabbit nuisance question. 6. That the Crown Solicitor at Christ-

church had been instructed in the matter of the appeal of Alfred Walker, of Waimate, against the decision of the Canterbury Waste Lands Board, and any delay that had taken place waa due to ACr Walker's solicitor. 7. That no direct communication had been received from Admiral Tryon on the organisation of a colonial naval force. 8. That it was impossible to b ring in a bill to amend the Dog Tax Act this session. 9. That a Statement on Mines would be made in a few days. 10. That a trial of the coal afc Waihao Forks had been made, and the analysis was not of a favorable nature. 11. That a Bum would be put on the estimates as a subsidy to public libraries. 12. That a mistake had been made in the construction of the Napier-Wood-ville line as regards the passenger accommodation at the Danevirke railway station, and steps were being taken to rectify it. 13. That if possible a bill would be introduced to reduce the number of persons liable to serve on coroners' juries, and to provide that perßons liable to serve shall be called in turn. 14. That it was not intended to introduce any bill whioh would disturb the present Licensing Act. 15. That there were not sufficient copies of the list of freeholders in New Zealand to supply the County Councils and Road Boards. NEW BILLS. The following bills were introduced : — Seamen's Representation Bill, Stamp Duties Act Amendment Bill, Deceased Persons' Estates Duties Bill, Property Assessment Bill, and bill to amend the | Gaming and Lotteries Act, 1881. RETUBNS. Several motions asking for certain returns were agreed to.

MINISTERIAL STATEMENT. Sir Julius Yogel asked the House to go into Committee of Supply to pass formal imprest resolutions. He then explained the order in which the Government proposed to take the discussion on their policy bills. With referenoe to the new tariff, he said the proposals of the Government were not caßtiron, and many obiecbions had been received , from, all parls of the country. He ■would bring down a bill dealing with the present tariff and the amendments ' made on Friday evening. Major Atkinson said the coarse the Opposition proponed to take was that as Boon as the Treasurer had explained his policy bills the debate should be adjourned till Friday. He suggested that the Treasurer should not ask the House to pass the new tariff &b it stood. Ha ventured to say that a more unsatisfactory tariff had never been in force in the colony. ' . Sir Julius Yogel agreed that the discussion on the policy bills should be poßtponed till Eriday. He considered the dissatisfaction expressed with the tariff arose from a misconception of it. COMMITTEE OF SUPPLY. The House went into Committee of Supply. An Imprest Supply Bill was read a second time. POLIOr BILLS. Sir Julius Yogel moved the second reading of the Local Finance and Powers Bill, the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Bill,' and the Gold Duty Abolition Bill. The debate on the bills was adjourned till Friday. ADMINISTRATION ACT. The House went into committee on the Administration Act, 1879, Amendment Bill. The House adjourned at 5.30 p.m.
