CRICKET.

CIVIL SERVICE CC. V. HEEALD CC,

The return match between the Civil Service and Herald Clubs was played at Petane on Saturday afternoon, and victory went to the Herald team with 18 runs to spare. The scores on both sides were Bmall, the bowling being too strong for the batting. Both sides worked hard, and the utmost good feeling was shown throughout. The wicket played very lively, and the balls kept constantly rising, as Borne of the batsman experienced to their cost by receiving nasty bruises about the head. Two of the Civil Service men had to retire once on that account, resuming their innings later on. Simpson's batting won him great praise, and his 18 was earned by true cricket. He was the only one on either aide who reached double figures. Thompson's 9 runs were made very quickly. Two on each side were run out, due in every case to recklessness. Mountier, who was expected to make a stand, unfortunately hit his wicket in playing back to a ball. The fielding of the Herald team waa very good all round. C. Tilley and A. Pirani both long-stopped well, the former especially picking up the ball very cleanly. Mr Thomson captained the Herald team and Mr Barclay the Civil Service. Appended are the scores and bowling analysis ; —
