THE ENGLISH CRICKETERS AT AUCKLAND.

[BY TBLEGBAPH.]

Auckland, Saturday,

The match was resumed this morning, the All England Eleven continuing their innings, which closed just before lunch for 21*4. After lunch Auckland went to the wickets, Midwinter opening the game by bowling from the hospital end and Bates from the Newmarket end ; Arneil and Isaacs at the wickets. The second ball from Midwinter Isaac put into Shaw's hands. Dewes came in and played the best cricket ever witnessed against Shaw's team in New Zealand. His Bcore consisted of three 4's, two 3's, four 2's and singles, totalling 31, made without a chance, Midwinter ultimately bowling him. 49 was now up. Robinson came next and stopped balls which he did not know much about. Peate now bowled from the hospital end. His second ball Arneil put to the off, and Selby accepted the invitation. P. Dufaur filled the gap. After playing the first ball he opened his shoulders and let a drive to one, but Barlow was about, and Bufaur retired. Yates joined Robinson, and some leather hunting was expected, but shortly after Robinson had to retire, after contributing 4, Midwinter clean bowling him. Yates' innings was a finished one, and added 18 to the score before he was caught by Selby, off Midwinter. Lynch contributed 4, and Shrewsbury at point caught him beautifully. Testro made a duck's egg. Cameron when he went to the wicket was suffering from a sprained leg, and Cox had to run for him. He is a free hitter, but did not remain long, Midwinter bowling him for 4. King was caught by Midwinter off the second ball. Cox took liberties with Peate, but Shrewsbury caught him, and he retired with a round 0. Bindon, after scoring 1, was caught by Shaw, off Midwinter. Whiteside and Jervis retired before they scored. Lankham shaped well, but, after contributing 3, was caught by Emmett at mid-on, off Peate. Thompson followed, and played a lengthy innings, an otherthrow adding to his score, but ultimately one of Peate's was launched into the bowler* hande, 8 being hia acort.

Bowden, Gardiner, Buckland, and Farrar contributed 1 a-piece. Donovan added 2, and Captain Mumford, in last, played three balls, and had the honor (?) of being not out for 0. The innings closed for 94, only leaving the Englishmen 3 runs to get to win with, which they made without the loss of a wicket. It having been arranged that the Englishmen should play to time, an hour and ten minutes, 00 runs were mad<*>, tho play being simply hitting at everything. Ulyett was run out aftor scoring six. Barlow was caught off Cox, the slow bowler, for 38. Bates, after getting 21, was stumped by Thompson. Emmett now beiug caught asleep Cox sent him an easy one, which he landed in Dewes' hands. Cox bowled Scotton for 7, and Shrewsbury, not out, 17, brought the match to a close, the total for the Englishmen beiug 00 for the loss of five wickets. The following are the scores : —
