THE KAIMANAWA.

Whether the fondly cherished idea of an "Ei Dorado" in the Kaimanawa ranges will ever be realised, is one of those things upon which it is idle to speculate. A certain amount of evidence of the existence of auriferous reefs in that locality is before the public, upon the strength of which a large sum of money was contributed, and prospecting efforts of a vigorous nature determined upon. Those efforts have already been put forth. Three parties have started—the last under the leadership of Mr. Tiffen, who, in all probability, will meet on the spot the original discoverer, Captain Williani M'Donnell, and be able to come to terms' with him. Though mortals cannot command success, they can study to deserve it ; and we think the Hawke's Bay settlers have really shewn, by their energy on mpre occasions than this, but on this in particular, tuat they deserve to win the smiles of fortune.
