NOVEL EXPORT OF MEAT.
We learn from the agents of the s.s. Lord Ashley that, on the last trip of that steamer from Wellington, sbe had on board as freight, intended for the Auckland market, the carcases of 40 bullocks, cut up into quarters, sewn up in canvas, and hung on beams across the vessel. The arrangements on board for giving ventilation to so novel a cargo reflect great credit on the captain and officers ; and we trust the spirited shipper will find the speculation a remunerative one. We would suggest to the stock-owners of this district the advisability of trying a similar experiment. It need not, so far as we can judge, be confined to, cattle,, as the carcases of sheep might be shipped on the same principle, and could not fail, at present prices, to yield a handsome return. Meanwhile, we learn with much pleasure that one of our enterprising stockowners i has cured a large number of carcases upon the principle practised by Mr. Lascelles, with which he intends, by an early steamer, to visit and try the Auckland and Thames markets.
