WELLINGTON.
Monday, May 17. The Tararua, steamer, was despatched late on Saturday for Melbourne, with the English mail. It is feared she will be behind time in arriving. Colonel Macdonnell's pamphlet; vindicating himself has been published. Dr. Featherston was proposed to day by Mr. Dransfield, seconded by Mr. Borlase. There being no opposition, he was, for the sixth time, returned, Owing to the wet weather, Dr. Hector has not yet visited the site of the gold quartz findings behind "Wainui-o-mata. Mr. Fiest and a preacher named Backland, while driving to service yesterday, were drowned in the Waingawa river, Wairarapa, through the trap being upset.
