A very spirited attempt is being made by Messrs. Driver, McLean, & Co., of Dunediu, to get up a grand show of live stock in connection with the New Zealand ExLibition. The Daily Times says : — *' These gentlemen undertake to be at the expense of receiving, accommodating, and attending to live stock se"nt for exhibition, and the Commissioners have consented to allow the exhibition to be held in connection with their own. The arrangements will all be subject to their approval, aud the judges, -upon whose, decisions the prizes will be awarded, will be appointed by them. The arrangement, as we understand it, is neither more nor less than to make the Live Stock Exhibition identical with the other, excepting only that the Commissioners will be free from pecuniary responsibility. This Messrs. Driver, McLean, and Co., have undertaken, and their spirited conduct will doubtless be properly appreciated. The Live Stock Exhibition will be open to the other colonies, so that the fullest amount of emulation will be excited. It is a pity the time is so short, but a great deal can be done in three mouths. It is impossible to exaggerate the use that may arise from such an exhibition in promoting the knowledge, upon the exercise of which so many New Zealand settlers depend. Not ouly will they be enabled to take lessons from their mutual experience ; but it is to be hoped the experience of the settlers of other colonies will be unsealed to them. These, too, may derive similar advantages. In short, it is for the interest of everyone engaged in cattle aud sheep breediug to contribute his utmost towards the success of the exhibition." In connection with the proposed intercolonial show of live stock, we refer our readers to an advertisement in another column. As it is the intention of Messrs. Driver, McLean, & Co. to hold a sale by auction of all descriptions of stock on the last day of the show — when all exhibitors will have an opportunity of disposing of their produce — and as every facility for carrying out the objects of the show will •be afforded by Messrs, Watt, Kennedy, and Watt, the agents at Napier, we hope to see the province represented on the forthcomiug occasion by a goodly array of animals. The exhibition will prove an excellent means of drawing the attention of the colonial public to the valuable stock now owned in this province ; and we •would strongly urge upon breeders and others interested the necessity of taking advantage of the opportunity — one which is sure to prove interesting as well as remunerative to all breeders of high class stock. The show will take place during the opening week of the New Zealaud Exhibition — on or about the 3rd January 1865. It will be held in the grounds adjacent to the Exhibition Building, where accommodation will be made for receiving aud classing Live Stock of every description, under the direction of the Commissioners, who will appoiut Judges and give awards for the within-mentioned Stock, &c, &c.
