ANGLICAN CONFERENCE
EIGHT BISHOPS TO MEET.
GENERAL CHURCH BUSINESS. Next week will be an important one for the Anglican Church in New Zealand. The Archbishop, seven bishops and a number of clergy and lay representatives will he in Wellington from Tuesday until Thursday for ecclesiastical business and for the annual service conducted by the New Zealand Anglican Board of Missions. The bishops who will attend are: Archbishop A. W. Averill (Auckland), Bishop T. H. Sprott (Wellington), Bishop A. C. Cherringfon (Waikato), Bishop C. West-Watson (Christchurch), Bishop H. W. Williams (Waiapu), Bishop W. A. B. Fitchett (Dunedin), Bishop W. G. Hilliard (Nelson) and Bishop F. Bennett (Aotearoa). On Tuesday there will "be the annual meeting of the Board of .Theological Studies. This is the authority which issues theological degrees and it is a substitute for a chair of theology at the universities which have none. The board issues the L.TH. degrees to candidates who have satisfied the board of examiners in theology and it fixes the syllabus for courses of study for the examination. The Anglican Board of Missions will also meet that day. . • , -o On Wednesday the Provincial Pensions Board will sit. On the Wednesday evening the annual service of the Anglican Board of Missions will take place in St, Peter’s Church, the preacher being Bishop Hilliard, Another Important meeting will be the session of the Standing Committee of General Synod which administers church government in accordance with the enactments of the General Synod from time to time.
