General and Social Activities

At the Normanby Presbyterian Church Social Hall on Friday night a “bring and buy” was held when, owing to the rough, night, there was only a fair attendance. Mr F. Bone gave a very interesting talk on his trip to Japan, and supper was provided by the ladies. A fancy fair is to be held in September. The Normanby Basketball Club has finished its matches for this season and is holding a wind-up dance early next month. Owing to "tlj.o number of lambs and also to the state of the grounds, it has been decided to close the St. Andrew’s golf links for a short period. A euchre party and dance was held in St Paul’s Church schoolroom at- Normanby on Tuesday evening in aid of football club funds. There vt as only a lair attendance. The ladies’ first prize was won by Mrs Harrison alter a play-off with Mrs Rurliman, and a consolation prize was won by Miss Edna Blackburn. The men’s prize was won by Mr W. Minhinnick, with Mr J. Walden second, and a consolation prize was won by Mr K. Tippett after a play-off with Mr J. Ben■nett. Mr J. Greig was master of ceremonies. Music for the dance was played by Miss J. Walden. The Matariki Maori Institute monthly meeting was held in (the JNormanby Horticultural Hall oil Tuesday, when there was only a fair attendance. Mrs Minhmmck presided. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames R. Robinson, Walker, T Robinson and W. Ngaotu. A _ lecture on skin disease given by bister Jewess was much appreciated and. a competition, the making of oilskjm coats from unbleached calico, was won bv Miss R. Robinson with Miss J. Robinson second. A hearty vote of thrJnks was accorded Sister Jewess for her very interesting lecture.
