MANAIA BAND

First Annual Ball

The first annual ball of the Alanaia Municipal Band, held in the Alanaia Town Hall last night, was a brilliant success in spite of the inclement weather. The dance floors in the hall proper and on the stage were filled to capacity and the decorations were most elaborate. Arranged by Mr C. Abbott, the scheme eclipsed any previous effort of its kind. The -stage was beautifully decorated with pungas and poppies and a full set of silver band instruments was set off to advantage by coloured lights. The interior of the hall was decorated with blue and gold streamers which extended from the dress circle to the stage and also from a dome in the centre of the hall. A raised orchestral pavilion was most elaborately decorated in blue and gold and entwined with festoons of miniature coloured lights. The walls were massively decorated with pungas and mirrors and coloured lights, the whole giving a fairyland effect. A lounge also was comfortably furnished. These decorations were in the hands of the band social committee, comprising Alessrs Abbott (chairman). F. Dick (secretary), M« Walker. J. Lloyd, C. Sproull, AV, Edwards. N Davis and C. Davis.
