CLAIM FOR DAMAGES
INJURIES IN MOTOR ACCIDENT
COUNTY COUNCIL SUED
(By Telegraph— ttmw Association. 7 INVERCARGILL, Feb. 20. Damages in respect to injuries suffered in a motor accident on the Eden-dale-Mataura road last July were claimed jn the Supreme Court by William Randolph Webb, Invercargill, who sought to recover from the chairman, councillors and inhabitants of the County of Southland the sum of £2500 general damages and £172 4s 9d special damages on the ground of alleged negligence. Webb, in his statement of claim, said that while lie was seated in a stationary motor-car on the GoreInvercargill main road on July 20, 1934, a car owned by the defendant corporation was so negligently driven along the road by one of its servants that it was driven with great force against Webb’s car and Webb was thrown out and seriously injured. The case concluded to-night when the jury returned a verdict in favour of Webb for £IOOO general damages and £l7l 17s Id special damages, i Counsel for Webb moved for judg- > ment in accordance with the verdict, while counsel for the defendant corporation sought leave to address the court on a non-suit point raised by him during the trial. His Honour, "»r Justice Kennedy, adjourned the consideration of both motions until to-morrow.
