SCOUT JAMBOREE
A WONDERFUL SUCCESS. N.Z. CONTINGENT POPULAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGIL, Jan, .1.7.__ Mr J. R. Kirk, M.8.E., chairman of the Dominion Council _of the Bov Scouts’ Association, who was the official representative of the council at the jamboree at Melbourne, said to-day when he landed from the Mahcno that the gathering at Melbourne ha-d been a wonderful success. The New Zealand contingent led by Commissioner Cooksey had hen very popular, their attractive camp in Maori style being the subject of much favourable comment. .
Lord Baden-Powell appeared to have made a wonderful recovery after his illness, and he took a very live interest in all the activities of . .the jamboree. The Chief Scout, who was eagerly looking forward to his visit to New Zealand, was received with remarkable enthusiasm everywhere. Mr Kirk was of the opinion that the jamboree would greatly advance the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements and the principles for which they stood. The attendant expense had been fully justified.
