FURTHER PROTEST MADE
lIAWERA COURT LITIGATION. WORK STILL ACCUMULATES. Further protest regarding the accumulation of litigation awaiting hearing at the Hawera Magistrate’s Court was made this morning by' Mr A. Iv. North. Speaking to the Magistrate, Mr W. H. Woodward, Mr North said that there, were at least. 13 cases awaiting hearing, apart from police eases, and some of them had been held up for months. There used to be two court days, said Mr North, one for police cases and one for civil work, and neither side encroached on the days of the other, save by r arrangement. However, the fact that the number of court days was practically' cut in half, and the added .fact that the number »f police cases was also accumulating made the position regarding litigation most unsatisfactory. The Magistrate said that the schedule for 1935 made provision for only' the same number of days as last year. Ho had, however, four days to spare in the near future, and these he would devote to the disposal of all Hawera cases possible. To this course the various counsel agreed.
