The improvement in prices l'ecorded last week lias been fully maintained and closing quotations to-day show a further advance of approximately Is to 2s per cwt. Forward buyers have continued to show interest and liumeious sales are reported from butter producing districts on the basis of 9d per lb. f.o.b. for January and 8 7-8 d for February shipments. This former price is the approximate equivalent of 78s per cwt. landed terms London. Lower production figures for New Zealand have to a large extent been offset by the increased Australian gradings resulting from the wet conditions prevailing in that country. In spite of this fact, however, the market displays a more healthy tone with to-day’s quotations of 10s per cwt. iix advance of those for the corresponding period of last year. CHEESE. Cheese values also improved during the past week and closing quotations l’epresent a further l'iso of Is to Is 6d per cwt. since our last survey. This now places white cheese 6d per cwt,, and coloured cheese 3s 6d per cwt-. iix advance of prices obtaining at the same period last year. Little activity on the ixart of f.o.b. operators is reported for, in view of the decreased production, few factories are displaying intei'est at today’s values. The serious decline in make suffered by most companies in the latter half of December should further assist the improvement in the market fox’, in spite of recent rains, thei'e now appears little prospect of this decline being overtaken.
