SCHOOL COMMITTEE. j (From Our Own correspondent). At the first monthly meeting of the newly-elected Kaponga School Committee on Monday evening Mr G. H. Brewer was re-eiected chairman and Mr C. A Corder as secretary. The headmaiSter reported t-lie roll number to be 97 and the average foi the month 94. The visiting committee for April reported having carried out an inspection. The class rooms and grounds were in splendid order. Some of the fences were in rather bad repair and it- was decided to have them overhauled as soon as possible. Messrs Norgate and Gordge were appointed the visiting committee for May. Mr Taylforth, the representative on the dental clinic committee reported that fees from two more pupils had been paid and treatment was being carried out. Air Taylforth "was reelected as 'the representative oil the dental clinic committee and was accorded a vote of thanks for the manner ill which he had attended to the committee’s and the scholars’ interests. Aliessr-s Norgate and Gordge were re-appointed as delegates to the South TaranakiSchool Committee’s Association. The caretaker’s allowance was_ increased as compensation for additional duties undertaken. The school term holidays will commence oil Alonday, May 7, and schools are to re-open on Alonday, May 21.

HOAIE NURSING GLASSES. In the recent- eaxminations of candidates in the home nursing classes, conducted under the auspices of the distinct branch of the Red Cross Society all candidates were successful in ot>tainiiijr a pass in the various degrees. The record reflected great credit on the instructress, Sister Small. The society is grateful to Dr Gray for undertaking the written portion of the examination.

Fourtn year bar (70 per cent to pass).—Joan Guy. 230, 77 per cent. SWISS BALL. The annual ball of the Swiss residents of the district was held at the Kaponga Town Hall on Tuesday evening. there was again a large attendance. As a result and with the in elusion of several competitions, about £45 will be realised for the Convent Sisters and the church. The Rev. Father AleDermott expressed cordia thyiks to the Swiss folk for the assistance and complimented them on tin great- success of the function. It took the Swiss to show what could he done he said. He read -a telegraiji from M. Blau. Swiss Consul at Auckland, regretting liis -inability to be present and sending his good wishes to ali Swiss residents.

The competition winners were: Sheep. Mr W. G. Oran; side of bacon. Airs R. E. Williams; bottle of perfume, Mr F. J. Satlor; fire screen, Father Butler. Alonte Carlos were won by Mr W. Taylor and Mrs W. H. Betts, Mr Phelan and Miss McCormack; a spot waltz bv Mr J. Carev and Miss Bishop and paper hats by Mr D. Inderbitzcn and Mrs J. Kaiser.

The music was played bv the Swiss orchestra, consisting of E. Gonpertli (piano), and Messrs F. Schuler, A. Ein'olhergor and H. (Meier (accorrleons). and extras were given by the Misses N. Brown and E. Crowley, All's Sehuellor. Air J. Carey and Air AlcDonald. An excellent supper was served by Mesdames A. Englebereor. A. M . Russ f). Steiner. Nottor. Belli, T>. Chamberlain, J T Butler. IT Steiner (Waikato'', F. Zimmerman. K. Lent-hard. FSchuler. Aliss A. Suter and Aliss Bishop (Feild'.ng). The hall was brightly decorated with greenerv and Swiss national fkms and a yodelling song was given by Mr Inderzitzen.
