PERSONAL AND GENERAL. (From Our Own Correspondent). Miss Kathleen Julian, of AY area, is spending a holiday here as the guest of Mrs S. AY. Beer. Master Ray Horgan has. returned, from Patea. Mr and Mrs J. Rumble have returned irom a short stay in Auckland. At the annual meeting of the Tennis Club last week the following committee was elected :' Misses lv. Huwnei and G. Emenv and Messrs C. AVemyss, E. AVakon and L. Beer, witn Miss V tloulbrook as secretary and treasurer. Mrs J. Ewart was elected president and Messrs J. Templeton, R. .W. Clements and R. C. AVatson vicepresidents. it was decided to arrange a working bee after the next school committee; meeting to get the court m order. Subscriptions were fixed at os lor gentlemen and 2s 6d for ladies, and junior members 2.s 6d. Mrs B. S. Coupe, who has been indisposed for some time, has baa to enter hospital for treatment. (.living to the brake giving way on the trucks bringing the logs into the mill one dav last week, the trut-a» i.(id out of control of the driver (Mi F. AVest, senr.) and crashed into the horses. The leader and another horse were so much hurt that they had to be destroyed. The final entertainment ot a series held in aid of the Maungahume school was held on Monday evening and took the form a hard-up ball. There were a good number in costume and the prizes were awarded to Mrs C. Portuous .(ladies) and Mr Geor. Short (men). The accommodation was taxed to the utmost and an enjoyable tune was spent to music supplied by Mrs C. Malcolm. • Eixtras were played by Miss K. Julian and Air L. Beer. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Gwen Beer and Air H. Adams and a spot waltz by Mi sis I. Cliefliugs ind pa.itnor. Mr R. J. Morris (chairman of the school committee) carried out the duties of M.C. and thanked all who had attended and those who m.d helped with the funfctjions .tor the ! school. A competition held during the I evening was won by Air P. Harding, ot Upunake. Air and Mrs Chas. Thompson have taken up their residence on the farm until recently occupied by Mr R. JAlildQiiha.il. The lain which fell for the biggest part of last week proved, very beneficial To pastures and gardens alike and it was also welcome to those housewives who depend on tanks for their water supply. Congratulations are due to Airs iv. AY. dements who won the l points prize for decoration at both tlie Opunake and Kaoonga sumier shows. J Airs J. Rumble and Airs Clements j also were very successful in the flower and fancy work sections also.
