MARKET CLOSES FIRM. FRESH MERINO RECORD (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) SYDNEY, Sept. 28. The market closed firm under good general competition at +<lie Sydney wool sales to-day. Best Merinos, also comebacks and crossbreds, showed a hardening tendency. Withdrawals were confined to lower qualities of skirtings and burrv fleece. Greasy Merino sold to 24 pence, which was a fresh leeord for the season. This price was obtained for nine bails of Coolatai. The catalogue comprised 12,198 bales of which 10.197 bales were sold. A further 993 bales were sold privately.
