FIGHTING NEAR PEKING

SORTIE BV FANG CAVALRY JAPANESE OPEN BOMBING. CASUALTIES BELIEVED SEVERE. 'United Press association —By cJectric Telegraph Copyright.) SHANGHAI, Sept. 27. Fighting; occurred yesterday 25 miles from Peking when Fang Chen Wu cavalry sought to enter Kaoliying, encountered Government troops and were defeated. Newspapers report that the Japanese actually commenced bombing before the expiry of their ultimatum demanding Fang’s withdrawal from the demilitarised zone. They inflicted severe casualties on Fang’s troops. To-dav the demilitarised zone is reported to be ominously quiet. It is believed Fang’s troops will be allowed to march towards the armstice line, where they will be disarmed by Government troops and a small payment made for each rifle. Fang’s revolt was definitely anti-Government and not anti-Japanese.
